Winless Browns fire VP Sashi Brown

Browns Fire VP Sashi Brown, Will Keep Hue Jackson Amid Tumultuous Rebuild

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam on December 7 fired Sashi Brown as executive vice president of football operations.

His firing is not unexpected since the Browns are 0-12 for the second straight season with Brown in charge.

Jackson has to hire an OC to take some of the pressure off his shoulders and maybe hire some position coaches as well. That is something that I think we all want to do - Jimmy and Dee, obviously. "I would like to know and be in concert with the person that will do those things". I take my responsibility in that, too. The team, however, said it will keep Hue Jackson as its coach for the 2018 season. "I do", Jackson said. I'm not naive enough to understand that could not have been me, just as well.

Jackson is choosing to look forward rather than behind. They also have more than $59 million in salary cap room - the most of any team in the NFL.

The next GM will be the Browns' ninth since 1999, and will be the fourth leader of the front office that Haslam has hired since his purchase of the team from Randy Lerner was approved by the league's owners on October 16, 2012. John Dorsey (Chiefs), Scot McCloughan (Redskins), Trent Kirchner (Seahawks) and Eliot Wolf (Packers), all former NFL Executives, have been linked to the Browns.

Jackson, though, is safe and will return for the 2018 season despite a 1-27 record. "This is a performance-based business. At the end as I told you guys, it is about winning and losing so we have to get to that as fast as we can". He gutted Cleveland's roster, electing not to re-sign some of the team's own free agents in favor of signing younger players and acquiring future draft picks.

"We worked hard. I am so grateful to the people I worked with throughout my four-plus years with the Browns, particularly the people I worked with the past two years. They're being developed right now and it's important for them to have a single voice from a head coach and a single voice from their position coach molding them into National Football League players".

After the announcement of Brown's firing, social media has not been kind.

"I think we all have a lot of work to do". "Sometimes it was personality related". Sometimes these things happen. "There is definitely not certainty".

As Sashi packs up his boxes fans aren't letting him off the hook for what may go down as the biggest flub and embarrassing moment of his tenure.
