The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that two students were shot at Graham-Kapowsin High School in Graham.

Authorities believe the shooting took place off campus and students ran back to the high school after being shot at.

Both victims were listed in serious condition Tuesday but are expected to survive.

The shooting in Graham followed a fight on school grounds, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. The other student was found inside a locker room.

Witnesses described the suspects as black males who reportedly fled the scene in a green automobile, possibly a Chevrolet Impala or similar in appearance. But before the fight started, someone in the getaway auto fired multiple rounds, hitting the two students.

"We got out to the school and found that there were two students who had been shot", said Troyer. Deputies who checked the school's grounds found no signs any suspects were there.

Students were beginning to be released from school about 4:30 p.m., starting with Frontier Middle School, according to the Bethel School District.

Concerned relatives who arrived to pick up their children from school after getting the alert about the shooting were reunited with them at the Frontier Middle School gymnasium. Authorities said two students were shot near the school Tuesday afternoon.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office appealed for the public's help in identifying the two wanted suspects and tweeted that Crime Stoppers was offering a reward for information.

Troyer said the shooting appears to be the result of an altercation between people who may have known each other. The shooting may be gang-related, and the suspects aren't believed to be students at the high school.

The school district announced the lifting of the lockdown at Graham-Kapowsin, as well as the two-hour delay of the start of school there Wednesday.

Four schools in the district went under lockdown, but Graham Elementary students were recently released to their buses, per the district.
