Toys For Tots Drop Off With 59 News

22News Toys for Tots toy collection starts it's final week

Organizers say donations are up this year but so are the needs of people in the community.

"We are thankful to Fareway for their partnership in the Toys for Tots campaign", Sgt. Andy Hermann, with the U.S. Marine Corps, said.

According to a press release from Fareway, this year the Marine Corps reported more than $162,000 was raised and 6,735 toys were collected as part of the Toys for Tots drive.

After taking a year off, David Sannes has returned this year as the coordinator for the Toys for Tots in Rocky Mount.

A toy drive will also be held at the Ogdensburg Walmart from 5 to 7 p.m. on December 15. Donations are being accepted until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20.

The 22News lobby is filling up, but the need is great. "We truly wouldn't be able to reach as many children in local areas without the help of Fareway and its generous customers".

The Marine Corps Toys for Tots program operates exclusively on the gracious outpouring from local people and organizations. "This Christmas season we've got hundreds of families who've already signed up to receive gifts from us", said Capt. Brian Goodwill, with the Salvation Army in Midland. Fortunately, the task at hand is a lot easier than fighting a war - it is giving back through Toys for Tots.
