Arrest made in murder of ex-NBA player Lorenzen Wright

Lorenzen Wright hangs on the rim after dunking during a 1997 NBA game against the Minnesota Timberwolves

He played 13 seasons for five different National Basketball Association teams, including the: Clippers, Hawks, Grizzlies, Kings and Cavs.

"This is just an indictment". Turner does not yet have a court date.

" I'm so happy, happy, happy., " said Marion as she spoke of the arrest of Billy Turner for the murder of her son", Lord thank you Jesus its gonna be a good day".

"We're like everyone else, and I saw Lorenzen's mother said the same thing".

Wright's body was found 10 days after he was last seen alive.

Because of the grisly nature of the crime and Wright's celebrity, the case was considered among the highest profile unsolved mysteries in Memphis history.

Last month, Memphis Police located a gun in a lake on County Road 302 in Walnut, Mississippi that was believed to be the weapon used in the murder of Wright. Surveillance video shows Turner being arrested at the Express Mart in Collierville. He retired in 2009 with a career average of 8.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. His ex, Sherra, said she had no idea who he left with.

Sherra Wright said Lorenzen Wright left her home in a auto with a person she could not identify. The sound of 11 gunshots can be heard on Wright's 911 call. They didn't send a patrol officer or relay the information to Memphis police until days later.

Dispatchers said they didn't alert patrol officers or commanders because they couldn't confirm it came from their jurisdiction.

Wright's body was found in a field near some woods in the height of summer, complicating the investigation because evidence had likely deteriorated in the heat. It was badly decomposed and left little evidence for police.
