Amazon Prime Video App Now on Apple TV in Over 100 Countries

There's No Great Reason to Buy an Amazon Fire TV Anymore

Apple's iPads have always been available for purchase on Amazon and Apple had ample leverage in the negotiations over the Prime Video app, so bet on Apple TV and Apple TV 4K becoming available on Amazon's retail channels at some point.

We knew it was coming and now Amazon has officially started rolling out its Prime Video app to the Apple TV 4K, as well as older models of Apple TV, in more than 100 countries. The new app, first announced back in June, is a full endorsement of Apple's platform, supporting 4K HDR video and unique tvOS features like Siri search and TV app aggregation.

"The app arrives just in time for the highly anticipated new season of The Grand Tour, which launches on December 8, and Prime Video members streaming on the Apple TV 4K will have the exceptional viewing experience of 4K HDR".

Aside from that, the Apple TV app also now supports live sports coverage from ESPN and National Basketball Association with partnership from the National Basketball Association and Turner Sports.

You can watch Amazon Prime Video at home or on the go by downloading it onto your Android or Apple device. Starting tomorrow, customers can enjoy Thursday Night Football live on Apple TV 4K and Apple TV. Google is threatening to pull YouTube from Fire TV by January 1, the latest round in a fierce battle between the two tech heavyweights.

Apple's selling point is that the unit is part of the Apple ecosystem, and therefore connects to your photos and videos from your iPhone and can play media from your Mac computer as well.

Ostensibly, Google and Amazon run different types of businesses. You can always get the player on the device. One of the more popular streaming delivery systems is Apple TV.

Quite what headway has actually been made in Amazon and Apple's long-running dispute over "business terms" isn't clear. Yes, that's correct: Amazon Prime Video on Apple TV is finally a reality.

Amazon said in a statement, "Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website".

Amazon Prime Video does have an iOS app - it's worth noting - so that doesn't entirely explain why Amazon doesn't stock those Apple devices.

It's also worth remembering that it supports playback of both music and video content via AirPlay, so even if the selection of native Apple TV apps doesn't cover your favourite service, you may still be able to stream it to your TV.

Amazon Prime Video is part of the Amazon Prime membership, now available for $10.99 or £7.99/month.
