The Crown's Matt Smith "feels sorry" for Meghan Markle

Markle, whose engagement was announced last week, recently ended her seven-year run on the U.S. series, "Suits", and revealed she will retire from acting to focus on royal duties.

Many celebrities came forward to gush about the engagement, with most sharing their excitement for Meghan.

Speaking at a talk at the 92nd Street Y in New York City ahead of series two of The Crown, Matt, 35, said of Meghan: 'I feel sorry for her. He said, "It's such a transition in her life, and it's such a huge thing to take on".

Meanwhile, the palace tells ET that Markle intends to travel for the next couple of months, visiting her family and friends before she settles into her new life at Kensington Palace.

Matt Smith has a bit of an insight into royalty after playing Prince Philip on Netflix's The Crown.

He may not be a real royal, but he plays one on TV - which is why Matt Smith has some perspective about the sacrifices Meghan Markle will be making now that she's engaged to Prince Harry.

The Crown star Matt Smith, who plays a role of Queen Elizabeth's II husband Prince Philip, shared his thoughts about Prince Harry's future wife and her royal future.

However, avoiding being too much of a Debbie Downer, the former Doctor Who star added: 'But hey, she's marrying the prince of Britain - how exciting for her'.

Philip, who has been married to the queen for 70 years in the biography Elizabeth the Queen, said, "I am the only man in the country not allowed to give his name to his children".

We can't say we're surprised Miz Bonas stopped by the service honoring Harry's late pal as the twosome did date between 2012 and 2014.

The Duchess of Cambridge's mother Carole Middleton and sister Pippa Middleton also attended the service, with the pair being regulars at the concert having attended since it began 15 years ago.
