Some reckoning for accused Valley legislator - and for Democratic party leaders

Assemblyman Matt Dababneh is shown in this undated file

In the latest development in a burgeoning sex scandal in California's Legislature, Pamela Lopez held a news conference at the office of her lobbying firm, K Street Consulting, to publicly name Dababneh as the perpetrator of an assault she had described to reporters and lawmakers for weeks without attaching a name. She chose to name Dababneh at the urging of California Assemblyman Ken Cooley (D), who chairs the Assembly Rules Committee. At the time, she refused to say who it was, but said she was persuaded to come forward to protect other women after an Assembly hearing last week on sexual harassment policies.

She also credited the #MeToo campaign and the "moment of collective action" for inspiring her to come forward and name her perpetrator.

In a complaint letter filed with the Assembly Rules Committee, Lopez said the alleged incident took place in January 2016 at a friend's wedding celebration at a Las Vegas hotel.

"Before Ms. Barker's article, I had never observed or been recounted, any wrong conduct by Assemblyman Dababneh, or any slander of ladies", Sherman told HuffPost in an announcement. "He told me to touch his genitals while he was masturbating. It was easy to get rid of me if somebody wanted to do that".

No one witnessed the alleged assault in Las Vegas but Lopez's lobbying partner, Afrack Vargas, said Lopez told him about what happened when she returned from the weekend in Las Vegas. Dababneh's lawful group sent her a stop this instant letter last Friday, calling her cases against him "false". Dababneh has strongly denied the allegation.

In an October article for the Los Angeles Times, Barker described being harassed while working in the office of an unnamed elected official. It felt familiar to me", Barker said."Pamela and I aren't the only women that Matt has harassed.

"I was up close and personal with Matt Dababneh and he had immediately uncovered himself and began jerking off", she said.

Barker also said that she has no reason to think Sherman was aware of Dababneh's behavior ― he was "always on his best behavior in front of the congressman", she said.

KCRA contacted the offices of Dababneh and has been referred to his lawyers.

Dababneh now represents California's 45th Assembly District, covering much of the San Fernando Valley in Southern California.

The hits keep coming in Sacramento, as another of California's Assembly members is now accused of sexual misconduct.

"While we understand that many lawmakers and others who work in the Capitol might not volunteer their opinions regarding your client", Levy wrote, "we are confident that they would testify truthfully under oath if questioned about the subject".

"I had freeze assaults for a considerable length of time because of some extremely severe lewd behavior in my workplace when I was 26 ... it didn't include any physical attack, yet it broke my psychological wellness. And that happens to so many women". "It was a terrifying experience", she wrote. "I want young women who are perhaps in college or in high school thinking about working in politics someday not to have to experience all of the things that I have experienced".
