One child killed, 22 hospitalized after Georgia school bus accident

GSP says the crash remains under investigation. When the bus veered off, the vehicle hit a tree, forcing the roof to collapse, reported The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

It was foggy Tuesday morning, but Georgia State Patrol Lt. Thornell King said it was too early to say what caused or contributed to the crash. She called the crash and the girl's death "just tragic".

Columbus police are investigating a Muscogee County School District bus crash that happened near Macon Road and Chattsworth Road.

The children on the bus were between the ages of 5 and 12, officials said. That's about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southwest of Savannah.

WSAV-TV identified the girl as Cambria Shuman.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a school bus crashed into a tree in Liberty County, Georgia. He said one child was killed and the driver suffered serious injuries.

On Tuesday, the driver of a Liberty County school bus lost control, ran off the road and went into a ditch. He said his understanding was that the injured children had 'bumps and scrapes and lacerations'.

Logan said some children were able to get off the bus on their own, others were assisted off by emergency workers.
