Netflix has halted production of the series shortly following the first accusation, and it was soon confirmed that the sixth season would be the last. Some fans chastised him for not waiting until after the show's series finale before coming forward.

The final season of the series will resume filming in "early 2018", according to the source, and will feature eight episodes, not the average 13.

The decision finalized what has been expected ever since producer Media Rights Capital shut down production on the show in November following reports of sexual misconduct against Spacey, who plays Frank Underwood in the series.

Production on House of Cards' sixth and final season will begin early 2018 - and Kevin Spacey will not be involved. "And we're really excited about bringing some closure to the show for fans". Spacey said he didn't recall the incident, but allegations by other men followed.

No doubt interest will be high once House of Cards Season 6 premieres to see exactly how the show addresses Frank Underwood's absence, but I'd be surprised if they found a "graceful" way to write him out of the show. As for Frank Underwood's offscreen fate, we'll have to wait and see, but in the Michael Dobbs novel that inspired both this series and the original United Kingdom miniseries, the main character (Frank Urquhart in those versions) dies.

House of Cards was Netflix's first original series order.

Spacey has also been pulled from the Ridley Scott film All The Money In The World, scheduled for release this month, and been replaced by actor Christopher Plummer.
