Gus Malzahn says best days are ahead for Auburn

Arkansas set Malzahn as the top target in its coaching search even before Bret Bielema was officially relieved of his duties following the Razorbacks' season-ending loss to Missouri on November 24 and had reportedly made a lucrative offer to get him to return home.

It may seem unusual for Malzahn to consider leaving Auburn-which reached the SEC Championship Game and beat Alabama this season-for an Arkansas program that fired Bret Bielema and went 4-8, but Dodd noted the coach had grown "frustrated at the always-shifting perceptions of him" with the Tigers.

"Strength and stability go hand-in-hand, and we have both in Coach Malzahn", Auburn University president Steven Leath said in a statement. Georgia's head coaches have earned this honor 12 times, including five times by College Football Hall of Famer Vince Dooley.

Smith was named the MVP of the SEC Championship Game. He got his first collegiate head coaching job at Arkansas State in 2012.

Auburn won the SEC West and was ranked No. 2 in the College Football Playoff before falling to Georgia, 28-7, in Saturday's (Dec. 2) SEC Championship game.

Malzahn, an Arkansas native, former wide receiver with the Razorbacks, legendary high school coach in the Fayetteville area and former Hogs offensive coordinator, is 45-21 in five seasons at Auburn. When that question is answered in a will, reporters and fans will stop asking. The victor of that game will go to the national championship. "We're on solid foundation and have a chance to do some special things".

In his two years at Georgia he is 20-6 and now his team has a shot at a national title. I love the school and love where we're going.
