Google Pixel 2 Price Slashed; Now Available At Rs 39000 On Flipkart

Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus

Meanwhile, following last week's final developer preview, it's more than likely that tomorrow's release will also coincide with the launch of Android 8.1. The updates are now available for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, 2XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 5X.

As for other devices, Google said Tuesday that it's working with "device maker partners to bring Android 8.1 to more devices, including Android Oreo (Go edition) devices, in the months ahead".

Android Go is lightweight version of Android for basic smartphones (with 1GB of memory or less), and 8.1 comes with a number of memory optimisations.

Pixel 2 is one of the first devices to ship with dedicated machine learning chips named Pixel Visual Core.

The 8.1 release also boasts autofill enhancements, as Google has made it easier for password managers and other Autofill services to use the Autofill framework.

Since Android 1.5, Google has named each version of its mobile operating system after a sweet food - moving sequentially through the letters of the alphabet. The OTA download is still yet to come, since what is available now are just the flash images.

Since the December Security Bulletin fixes high-level and the moderate-level vulnerabilities, this is good for those who have to wait.

Looking for a great phone that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Other changes include improved Oreo Easter Egg along with a tint on lockscreen and homescreen that is based on the set wallpaper. The 8.1 update brings the new Google Search bar at the bottom of the homescreen, just above the navigation bar, where it can be reached easily.

When you're ready, you can publish your APK updates targeting API level 27 in your alpha, beta, or production channels. Hopefully, within the next week or two, most Android devices will have received this patch. We're looking forward to seeing your app updates! If you have had an Android device for a while, then you know about all of these minor issues.
