Chiefs suspend CB Peters one game

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid suspends Marcus Peters for incident at Jets game

Reid said he discussed the suspension with the team's leadership after he made the decision.

"I've done a lot of thinking and come to the conclusion I'm going to suspend him for this game", Reid said during his Wednesday press conference. The culmination of events came the first time the Chiefs played the Raiders when Peters landed an unnecessary hit on quarterback Derek Carr.

The suspension is punishment for Peters' actions against the New York Jets last Sunday, when he threw a referee's flag into the stands.

After tossing the flag into the stands, Peters was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. "I think they understand it".

Peters has recorded 146 tackles, 17 interceptions and four fumble recoveries in 43 career games since being selected by Kansas City with the 18th overall pick of the 2015 draft.

"Any time a player goes down, whether it's an injury or something like this, you treat it the same, and I'm sure they will", Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said.

Smith believes that the team stands ready to move on this week against the Raiders without Peters. He shouted at defensive coordinator Bob Sutton during another game and directed an obscenity at a fan behind the Chiefs' bench at Arrowhead Stadium. Reid did say he met with Peters and other players and decided this is the best thing for the organization. That's not the way I roll with these things. "That's where I sit right now".

"This was something that Marcus and I discussed and I leave it at that", Reid said.

The frustration turned back toward the field against the Jets, the Chiefs sixth lost in the last seven games.
