Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield won't start, stripped of captain status for lewd gesture

After the Oklahoma quarterback's behavior Saturday before and during his team's win over Kansas, one National Football League general manager thinks more pro teams might fall into the hate category come draft season.

Heisman frontrunner and Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield let the hapless, now 1-10 Kansas Jayhawks get on his nerves Saturday.

All those pearl-clutching pundits and shell-shocked Kansas fans can now rest easy in the knowledge that something meaningful has been taken away from Mayfield for no good reason.

Mayfield will play, however, so this is more of a symbolic form of discipline than anything substantial. "Things like this past Saturday, yeah, it's going to hurt him come the draft". He's added another 240 yards and five touchdowns on the ground and should win the Heisman in a landslide this year, regardless of his behavior. Dr. (Sheahon) Zenger and I have had a conversation and we will continue to agree that we want everyone in our program to represent the University of Kansas with dignity and class at all times.

"Because obviously that was a little bit of, nearly a lightning rod, obviously, to stir up the emotions of both teams", Riley said on the teleconference, "and made for a heated, chippy game".

"An example needs to be (made)".

If you haven't seen it, here it is. Mayfield was named Monday as a finalist for both the Davey O'Brien Award, given to the nation's top quarterback, and the Maxwell, which is presented to the country's top player. You could maybe argue he's the top.

"I knew something needed to be done". Social media has created this aura, this culture around kids.

"Does he fall out of the first round?"

"You love the fire, you want him to have the fire", Riley said. He's going to have to overcome this with a lot of teams. I think so. Is he a risk?
