With a 5 percent increase over last year, air travel is the mode of travel that will see the largest growth this year.

"Automobile travel is expected to increase by 3 percent over last year's Thanksgiving week in Texas", said AAA spokesman Daniel Armbruster, speaking by phone.

Last year, 11 people died on IL roads during the long holiday weekend from 6 p.m. the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to 5:59 a.m. the following Monday. Here's how Waze expects those travel times to pan out for the rest of the week.

Despite gas prices higher than last year, nearly two million people will hit the roads in New England, a 3.3 percent increase over last year, AAA reports.

The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is from Wednesday, Nov. 22 to Sunday, Nov. 26. About 4 million will fly, a 5 percent increase. However, airline travelers will also pay the cheapest airfare on average since 2013. Road trips will cost more, however. Five years ago, the average price-per-gallon in the Huntsville area was $3.24.

"Gas prices are up just under 30 cents from past year, but it's not making an impact people are still traveling by auto", said Stulir. The $157 norm is 23 percent lower than last year's average, Armbruster said in an interview and in his report. Another thing that travelers should keep in mind is the airport crowds, particularly on the day before Thanksgiving, arguably the busiest travel day of the year.

If you'll be traveling by airplane this holiday, the Syracuse Hancock International Airport is advising passengers to arrive at least two hours prior to their scheduled depart time due to newly added TSA screening procedures and an increase in passenger volume. "And if you have any issues on the road or if you see any reckless or impaired driving don't hesitate to call *HP and let us go and check on that driver". You might be entitled to free checked bags, a discount on in-flight food and drinks, lounge passes or other goodies. Just expect that and that way you are prepared for it and you don't get stressed on the road. - If you get bumped off an oversold flight or your flight is delayed excessively, know your rights to fair treatment and compensation.
