Contempt of court notice issued to administration in sit-in case

The suo moto notice was taken over lawyer's adjournment motion plea in some case

"I am hopeful that we will resolve the issue in 24-48 hours", he said further.

A delegation of the government led by interior minister Ahsan Iqbal convened a meeting with clerics belonging to different schools of thought and while briefing the media afterwards, it was told that the government has agreed to take action against the official responsible for controversial changes in Elections Act 2017.

Talks between the government and protest leaders failed on Monday with no breakthrough in sight as the protest leaders continue to demand the resignation of Federal Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid.

"We all have consensus that Dharna (sit-in) issue in Federal Capital should be resolved through dialogues with protestors and amicable solution be found", Ahsan Iqbal said and added Pakistan can not afford this disorder any longer. He, however, clarified that use of the force against the protesters would be a last option to disperse them.

Protesters are continuing to demand the resignation of Law Minister Zahid Hamid.

The government's team comprised Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, Raja Zafarul Haq, Rana Sanaullah and Captain (retired) Safdar.

When Interior minister Ahsan Iqbal appeared before court, the learned judge expressed resentment over non implementation of court's orders and questioned why the court orders could not be implemented?

The minister said that the government was also trying to maintain the law and order besides avoiding any conflict and any encounter for ensuring the safety as well as security of the life and property of people in the country.

He said there is no legal justification of protest after a bill passed unanimously by both houses of the parliament concerning the finality of Prophethood (Khatm-e-Nabuwwat). Addressing the sit-in participants, Khadim Rizvi said that Raja Zafar-ul-Haq should inform the public about involvement of the law minister in omission of the clauses from the electoral laws.

On the other hand, a heavy contingent of Rangers, Frontier Corps and police are deployed in the area whereas armoured vehicles, prison vans and ambulances are also present.
