A police officer told news agency that sub inspector Imran Tak died of bullet wounds here shortly after the attack. Search operation in Kulgam woods was going on.

Locals of the area said Mir's family kept the body at the home for the night and from early morning, mourners started to pour in. While condemning the killing of police officer, the Deputy Chief Minister said the sacrifices rendered by valiant police officers would be remembered forever and the perpetrators of the violence would be dealt with sternly.

A militant identified as Mugees Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Aziz Mir was killed becoming the first to be killed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police when a gunfight brokeout in Zakura. He is a resident of Parimpora in Srinagar.

This was the second time a militant was captured alive during encounter.

A police officer who was critically injured in a firing incident at Zukura area of Srinagar has succumbed to his injuries.

"There will also be partial restrictions in Maisuma and Kralkhud police stations of Srinagar", Shah said.

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) - Authorities imposed curfew-like restrictions in several parts of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, on Saturday.

Kashmir University, in a press statement said, the class work will be suspended for a day "but scheduled examination will be held".
