Here are the major stores open on Thanksgiving Day - and Black Friday

After all, if online shopping is all the rage, why bother opening stores on Thanksgiving Day?

Black Friday shopping enthusiasts are scoping out ads and prepping to grab the best deals, but the first step is figuring out which of your favorite stores will be open when.

Black Friday bargains have sent shoppers into a frenzy in the United States for many years now - but now the trend has well and truly hit Australia. If you're too slow, there's always Cyber Monday.

Kmart stores will open at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving and will stay open until 10 p.m. on Black Friday.

Americans' online purchases on Cyber Monday alone will climb 16.5 percent from previous year to $6.6 billion, making it the largest online-shopping day in history, Adobe estimates. It's also the unofficial start of the final push for holiday shopping. Be quick though, most retailers will end their sales at midnight on Monday, 28 November. Retailers such as Amazon and Target are offering deals even earlier than Black Friday. Consumers say they will spend an average $967.13 this year, according to an annual survey conducted by the federation.

"Guests can get a jump start on holiday shopping with select Black Friday deals across toys, electronics, entertainment and more", the retailer announced.

A simple search for apps with search words "Black Friday" generates many different apps that can provide insight on deals before and on Black Friday.

If you really need a new refrigerator and the one you want is only going to be on sale on Black Friday itself, be prepared to be at the store, before the doors open. Even if their stores are closed, retailers' websites and warehouses are still up and running.
