It was an advisory jury; IFFI is a government initiative

IFFI Protest against the exclusion of Nude and S Durga

Sanal Kumar took to Facebook to laud the "fight back" of these jury members.

When prodded to comment on the merits of the two films Sujoy said, "They are both very accomplished films".

Reacting to the news, filmmaker Ruchi Narain, who is one of the jury members, told TNM that she is surprised and dismayed by the Ministry's move. Ironically, the Marathi movie "Nude", which also faced the axe, was earlier unanimously chosen as the opening film of the Panorama section. Lauding Sujoy for his courageous act, Sasidharan took to the social media to inform, "I am also doing my bit, I have filed a writ petition before the Hon'ble High Court of Kerala against the unprecedented, illogical and unconstitutional decision taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting".

As for "Sexy Durga", Mr. Parrikar said, "They said that in two other film festivals, the film was shown with cuts, MAMI in Mumbai and Kerala Film Festival".

I repeat, the Ministry had the option of dropping two films.

Several jury members expressed their displeasure over the ministry's move to drop the films from the list they submitted, calling it "disappointing and sad". It's ironic, really, that an industry that has information in its very name should fail to inform everyone involved before taking such a decision.

After 'S Durga' Dropped From Film Fest, Director Goes To Court: 10 Points

The reason for disqualifying Nude, said a ministry source, was that the film submitted to them was a work in progress.

As part of the film festival, Doordarshan has already started showing blockbuster movies everyday till November 28 on their channel, he said.

"Without understanding the context and setting of the movie, such fundamentalist groups acting with ulterior motives, opposed the film and even issued threats to the petitioner, on a baseless notion of hurting religious sentiments", Sasidharan says in the petition. It's a great honour for me that Pihu will be the opening film in India's most prestigious film festival. I am happy Sujoy and Apurva (Asrani) resigned.

Public broadcasters Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR) have lined up a number of programmes on the upcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, an official said. We haven't had many children's films being made and this one tells the story of a child sensitively.

According to the Newspaper, If that is the case, it can not be shown even if the jury has selected it.

Perhaps this is the first instance where a jury head has quit IFFI just days before the festival that for all intent is seen as the country's premier film festival. The film has nothing against goddess Durga, or any other religious icons, it says, highlighting the absence of vulgarity or obscenity. "When you stand for freedom of expression, don't involve political interests in it". Some of the greatest films of the entire world come to the festival and it is unfortunate that the I&B ministry has the power to veto films here.
