Two men stabbed at the Mall of America

Two people reportedly stabbed at Mall of America

One victim reportedly suffered knife wounds to his back while the other suffered multiple stab wounds, but authorities say their injuries were not life-threatening. Their alleged assailant, Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman, is being held on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Abdirahaman allegedly tried to steal a customer's belongings from a men's fitting room at the Minnesota mall while the customer had been trying on clothes outside the fitting room.

Police have identified the man arrested after a botched robbery and stabbing last night inside the Mall of America.

When another man intervened to help the first victim, he too was stabbed.

The incident took place near where shocked shoppers were lining up to see Santa Claus. Abdiraham was able to stab both shoppers before he was subdued by other people in the store, authorities said.

Abdirahaman, who is now being held on two counts of probable cause first-degree assault, was pictured in his mugshot bruised and bloodied. They were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for treatment.

While the Macy's store closed early, the rest of the mall, with its more than 520 stores, remained open.
