Every year, Children's Day is celebrated on the 14th of November in India as a tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru. It was his love for children that made Indians to celebrate Children's Day. However, after Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru's death in 1964, it was decided unanimously to commemorate his birthday - November 14 as Children's Day or Bal Divas in the country. The day also marked the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly called "Chacha Nehru".

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, who is campaigning in Gujarat, also tweeted, "Today we remember a brilliant compassionate man".

The Congress said on its official Twitter account: "Remembering a charismatic leader with an affection for children. his birth anniversary is the ideal celebration of innocence, cheerfulness and curiosity of India's future".

November 14 is celebrated as Children's Day across India. But here is this child who works from dawn to dusk for her daily bread.

Rich tributes were paid to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru by a host of leaders on his 128th birth anniversary today.

On the occasion, former president Pranab Mukherjee and former prime minister Manmohan Singh visited Shanti Van.
