Encounter between Security forces and terrorists underway

Two militants and an army man were killed in an encounter between militants and security forces in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday.

"Cordon and search operation turns into gunfight in Nowbug Kund Qazigund of Kulgam", a police spokesman said. Reportedly, the fighting started after holed-up militants fired at the team of Indian armed forces comprising of troops from the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

A police official said Bhat was from the volatile Palhalan area.

Paying tributes to the slain militants, Hizb chief Salahuddin, in a statement issued from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, said the ongoing struggle would continue till a logical conclusion was reached.

The injured soldier and policeman were shifted to a hospital.

Sources added that some of the militants managed to escape from the encounter.

The police official said that till reports last came in, both the encounters were on in Kulgam and Pulwama. One terrorist has been killed in the operation. "It was a search operation during which a hideout was busted", he told CNS.

Authorities have suspended internet service in Baramulla district fearing it would mobilize crowds.

In Lam village of Tral, the encounter broke out after militants fired upon a search party of security forces. Railway services were disrupted in Kulgam and Anantnag. A gunfight was reported to be underway between security forces and militants in south Kashmir's Tral district as well.
