Lyft to Launch Operations in Canada

Lyft's first market outside the US will be Canada with a December launch in Toronto

Up until now, Lyft has been US -only, so this Toronto launch is a big move for the ride-hailing company.

Lyft will soon drive into Canada, specifically Toronto, beginning in November.

In an effort to entice drivers, Lyft is offering a 25 percent bonus for the first 3,000 drivers who are approved and who complete 20 rides a week during the company's first three months of operation in Toronto. It was revealed in September that the company has secretly held several "high-level talks" with municipal officials from the city. "We expect that to happen, and we see it as a city that really shares the value that we have at Lyft - focusing on people taking care of people, treating people well, treating people with mutual respect and promoting both inclusion and diversity".

Lyft is rapidly gaining on its larger competitor.

Uber rival Lyft is hitching a ride and heading north.

John Zimmer, Lyft's president and co-founder, told the Toronto Star that they view Toronto as a world-class city and that it'll likely become one of their top five markets overall.

"We'll begin outreach to drivers today and will have additional information on timing in the coming weeks", the company said in a news release. Still, the leaked investor document shows that its revenues are growing at a faster rate than Uber's.
