California: 3 Killed at Rancho Tehama School Shooting, Elementary Students Injured

There were seven shooting scenes, including Rancho Tehama Elementary School, and it appears the attacker was "randomly picking targets", police said. Students also were shot and wounded at an elementary school. Johnston could not say how many people in total had been killed or wounded, but told the station, "I know of at least three deaths".

Vice President Mike Pence says he is "deeply saddened" to learn of a series of shootings in Northern California that has resulted in the loss of multiple lives and injuries to children. Johnston said the school had been cleared by 10 a.m. but he did not have any information about the victims there. Three of them were children and one was an adult. A woman and another child were shot in a truck that was driving near the school and taken to the hospital, he added.

Police killed the gunman who, according to a local NBC affiliate, shot and killed his neighbor before the shooting at Rancho Tehama school.

The nearby Rancho Tehama Airport was placed on lockdown.

This latest active shooting to terrorize a community began shortly before 8 a.m., Phil Johnston, an assistant sheriff in Tehama County, told reporters in a briefing Tuesday.

"I have the right to bear arms, and I will protect my son if I have to", she said. Enloe Hospital officials four patients were transported there.

The roommates lived near the gunman, and the surviving witness said that their neighbor had been shooting a lot of rounds recently. Law enforcement officers killed the shooter after responding to a domestic violence incident involving the shooter.
