Apartment floor collapses, sending college students to floor below

Meanwhile in Denton #UNT' added one user along with a gif of the classic Disney film The Aristocats that depicts the cats partying so hard they too fall to the floor below

It happened just before 2:00 a.m.at The Ridge at North Texas apartments located near Highway 288. The collapse was captured on cellphone video.

The floor collapsed under the feet of dozens of party-goers inside a third-floor apartment at The Ridge at North Texas.

This jaw-dropping video shows the moment the floor gave way because of "too much jumping". People are then seen in the lower unit attempting to climb out of the large hole. At least six people had injuries, Denton police said, and no one had to be transported by ambulance. Some people drove themselves to the hospital.

A fire marshal said water pipes were damaged when the floor collapsed, causing water to leak into the second storey of the building.

According to KXAS, four young women live directly beneath the apartment that collapsed.

Hornik, a junior, and her three roommates were inside their first floor apartment when the floor collapsed two stories above. He's a Dallas native and a graduate of the University of North Texas.

Local cops said around 10 people were injured in the fall at the second floor property.

Until the building and its sprinkler system are repaired, the utilities will remain shut off, Denton Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Glenn said. "Everything is gone", says Carroll.

Students affected by the collapse said the apartment management company and university have secured places for them to stay, mostly in hotels or dorms.

No word if "structural issues" at The Ridge Apartments on Colorado Blvd. are actually to blame.

"We're still students who had our lives completely destroyed, they could probably help us out a little bit more", said Hornick.

Roommate Rochelle Carney says her room has the worst damage.
