Stabbing Confirmed at Mall of America

Two people reportedly stabbed at Mall of America

Authorities say at least one person has been stabbed. Another man in his party responded to the victim's cries for help and was also stabbed, Potts said.

Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman.

Upon his arrest, Abdirahaman was charged with two counts of first-degree assault.

Police have named the man accused of stabbing two people inside the Mall of America during a botched theft attempt Sunday.

Police say the suspect had attempted to steal the first victim's property, which was in a fitting room.

Witnesses in the store say they saw the suspect behaving erratically before the attack.

When the victim confronted Abdirahaman, he drew a knife and stabbed the victim. Nearby shoppers panicked as they were waiting in line with their kids to get their picture taken with Santa. Both individuals were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for treatment. "By the time we got to the main area - the men's department is to the right - more police started running in with their guns drawn".

Police arrested the suspect, who was held by other shoppers after the incident, the Star-Tribune reports.

While the Macy's store closed early, the Mall of America stayed open and was not placed on lockdown.
