The suspect, 20-year-old Mahad Abdiaziz Abdiraham, of Minneapolis, was attempting to rob one of the men, police said.

Police have named the man accused of stabbing two people inside the Mall of America during a botched theft attempt Sunday. But he caught Abdirahaman in the act, and the would-be thief pulled a knife and stabbed him, authorities said.

The second victim was allegedly stabbed after he intervened.

While the Macy's store closed early, the rest of the mall, with its more than 520 stores, remained open.

The two stabbing victims were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Both individuals were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for treatment.

Police were seen running through the mall toward the store, witnesses said.

A spokesman for the police department confirmed that other shoppers detained Abdirahman until police arrived on the scene and arrested him on two counts of first degree assault.

The only way Mall of America stabbing will make it on the news is if suspect was carrying a Robert E Lee statue, KKK member, or wearing a Trump hat.
