Rutgers: 'I think this loss will sting more' after tasting victory

Coach James Franklin saw Saturday's game against Rutgers as an opportunity to bounce back from a tough, two-loss stretch that all but ended Penn State's chance to play for a national championship.

The Nittany Lions are now riding a 15-match winning streak, and have a 25-1 overall record, and a 15-1 record in Big Ten play.

Following the Lions' 35-6 win over Rutgers, in which he ran for a season-low 35 yards on 14 carries, Barkley was asked about his plans for next week and the bowl game.

Play of the game: Trace McSorley hit DaeSean Hamilton, who pitched a lateral back to Saquon Barkley, who gained 21 yards to the Rutgers 1, setting up the Lions' third touchdown and 21-6 lead with six minutes left in the third quarter.

Rutgers went for a fake punt on its next drive but Penn State's Brandon Smith smelled it out and made the tackle short of the first down.

Maybe most notably, though, the o-line without a doubt outplayed that of Penn State.

"I think the o-line did a good job today, honestly", Rescigno said.

McSorley connected for touchdown passes of 22 yards to Hamilton just before halftime and 16 yards to Gesicki in the fourth quarter.

It's a glorified scrimmage, and four quarters that could prove to be the difference in millions for players entering the NFL Draft. "He was able to scramble around and extend drives with his feet". The Scarlet Knights (4-6, 3-4) recovered and kicked the first of two field goals that gave them a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter. However, the Scarlet Knights led 6-0 early in the second quarter, thanks in large part to a freakish start to the game. The Scarlet Knights had a meager 43 yards passing from Giovanni Rescigno, who completed just 7-of-20. He might only have two games left to do it.Barkley's been projected as a top-five pick if he decides to bypass his senior season and make himself available for the 2018 National Football League draft.

Ryan Bates, who was hurt October 28 against Ohio State, missed his second game with an undisclosed injury.

While Barkley struggled again running the ball and was held to 35 yards, McSorley threw for two scores and ran for another as PSU bounced back from a two-game losing streak.

"It's part of the game", Barkley said.

"The decisions we make come with careful deliberation about the potential impact on our loyal fans and community and the conditions for success they create for our student-athletes", Athletic Director Sandy Barbour said in a news release.

Penn State was without starting outside linebacker Manny Bowen, who was suspended for a violation of team rules.
