Martellus Bennett Told Teams Not To Claim Him Before Signing With Patriots

Three things we learned in the Patriots' 41-16 Patriots win over the Broncos Sunday at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

"When I got here, I landed at 2:30, got to the hotel, had to be back at the facility at 5:45", Bennett said. In a game that probably had Bill Belichick beaming afterwards for his team's play in all three phases, it was the Patriots' special teams that ended up being the deciding factor in Denver with a handful off game-altering plays in the first half.

Denver shut down New England on its opening drive only to have Isaiah McKenzie botch the punt return.

Special teams: F. Perhaps a "Z" would be a better fit.

Throughout almost the last two decades, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has led the franchise to much success over that span. But he is willing to play though his injury for the Patriots and Tom Brady. The Patriots recovered and scored a rapid-fire touchdown on the ensuing march.

The Denver Broncos don't have the greatest situation at quarterback and on the offensive line, but a well-coached team would not be playing as poorly as they are with the talent they have on defense and at the skill positions offensively. Bennett claims he played throughout the season with an injured shoulder apparently so painful that after he was released, he considered getting surgery and calling it quits on a 10-year career. But we all saw that coming, right?

The NFC North team chose to waive the tight end which they signed to a three-year, $21 million contract back in March because he failed to disclose a medical condition. This issue between the Packers and Bennett still isn't over, as the team could look to reclaim part of all of his salary from his time with the team due to failing to disclose a medical issue.

The Patriots under Belichick have been one of the most dominant teams in the league over his tenure that includes winning five of seven trips to the Super Bowl, which is most all-time for a head coach in league history. "But looking forward, if he can't do the job, we gotta change him". Maybe the guy just needed a guy of Bennett's stature present with the team in order to motivate him in the right direction?
