Only three previous times have both leagues' Rookie of the Year been awarded unanimously: Benito Santiago and Mark McGwire in 1987, Mike Piazza and Tim Salmon in 1993 and Scott Rolen and Nomar Garciaparra in 1997. Bellinger gave the Dodgers a record 18th Rookie of the Year victor.

The only major question was whether it would be unanimous - and it was.

Pepsi was the official soft drink of Major League Baseball for the past 20 years, leading up to this season, when Coca-Cola took over.

Bellinger played in 132 games, hitting.367 with a.933 OPS with 39 home runs.

Judge was hardly a lock for the award before the season started, but quickly jumped to the front of the pack among American League rookies. Bellinger gave the Dodgers a record 18th Rookie of the Year victor.

Other AL finalists included Boston's Andrew Benintendi, who hit.271/.352/.424 with 20 home runs and 70 walks, and Baltimore's Trey Mancini who hit.293 with 24 HR for the Orioles.

Paul DeJong finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting, with Josh Bell third and Rhys Hoskins fourth. He is also a finalist for the AL MVP Award announced Thursday.

Bellinger also won the Sporting News NL Rookie of the Year Award and the MLB Players Choice NL Rookie of the Year Award last week.

The Yankees entered this season with marginal expectations by their standards, but the prodigious power of Judge and catcher Gary Sanchez transformed them nearly overnight into an exciting young team with tremendous potential. Judge wowed everyone with home runs to all fields and even though he had a nasty slump after winning the Home Run Derby, fans had hope that the sweet swing that slugged 30 home runs before the All-Star Break would return. Not only did NY come within one game of a trip to the 2017 World Series, but almost the entire core that led the team there is already signed on for next year.

The Dodgers, of course, could not finish the job in the World Series.

Bellinger is the second straight Dodgers player to win Rookie of the Year.

Bellinger, 22, began the season in the minors and was called up on April 25.
