IT sleuths raid Jaya TV offices across TN

While most of the search operations were completed on Saturday, the search is reportedly continuing in various areas of Cuddalore and Namakkal districts of Tamil Nadu.

Sasikala's brother Dhivakaran owns and runs the all-girls Sengamala Thayaar Educational Trust Women's College at Sundarakottai near Mannargudi town. "The total value of the documents and cash will be known only after the completion of the entire search operation", the senior official noted.

IT department sources said that Poongundran, Shivakumar and Pugalendhi were summoned for further questioning over the documents seized during the raids.

The search operations resumed on Monday after it was temporarily called off on Sunday.

He said the department waited for the individuals and companies to file their tax returns for the year, and based on the filing and the data with the IT department, the search was carried out.

The penalty and other charges for tax evasion would be imposed after the close analysis of the money and documents seized.

"Cash and jewels worth a few crores have been seized too", according to sources.

"People are watching everything, they understand what is going on", Sasikala's nephew TTV Dinakaran said of the raids. The department is perusing the routing of funds by shell companies outside the country post demonetisation.

"We froze 100 bank accounts after we found that they belong to 20-odd shell companies".

"We recovered many documents relating to these shell companies from Vivek's house".

The places raided included the residence of M Natarajan, Sasikala's husband in Thanjavur, Kodanad Tea Estate, former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's assistant Poongundran's house in Adyar, Dhinakaran's farmhouse in ECR, Midas Distilleries and several other premises in Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

Earlier on Saturday, the IT department raided at Dr Namadhu MGR (Tamil newspaper) and Jaya TV Offices, also at the residence of Managing Director Vivek Jayaraman and his sister Krishna Priya in Chennai on in connection with alleged tax evasion matter.
