Adidas have unveiled the Telstar18 ball for next summer's World Cup in Russia

The Telstar18 is a reinvention of the classic design from the 1970 tournament, featuring the latest technology and an innovative NFC chip to enable digital interaction.

Adidas have unveiled the official matchball for next year's World Cup in Russian Federation - the Telstar18. I like all of it: "the new design, the colours, everything", he said.

A similar design, the Telstar Durlast, was used in Germany four years later and it retains an iconic status among football fans.

The World Cup ball has won the approval of five-time World Footballer of the Year Messi.

Roland Rommler, Category Director of Football Hardware at adidas has revealed designing the ball was an exciting challenge.

"The new panel structure and inclusion of an NFC chip has taken football innovation and design to a new level and offers both consumers and players a completely new experience".

Argentina's great hope Lionel Messi was joined by the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Xabi Alonso, Alessandro Del Piero, Lukas Podolski and Kaka to unveil the ball on Thursday afternoon.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 in 11 cities of Russian Federation.
