Hodgson tries to quash Wilshere rumours

Jack Wilshere

With Hodgson's successor, Gareth Southgate, stating that he can't consider Wilshere because of his lack of game time, such a move would make sense.

Wilshere was only given 12 minutes in Arsenal's last outing, a 3-1 defeat away at Manchester City.

Wilshere was speaking at the premiere of 89, a documentary on the Arsenal side who beat Liverpool to the 1989 league title thanks to an injury-time victor from Michael Thomas at Anfield, an iconic moment in the club's history.

The 25-year-old reportedly turned down the chance to join the Italian giants in the summer of 2016, instead opting for a season-long loan with Bournemouth.

"I want to be playing for my country", he said. "I work with Dougie Freedman and we talk about potential players".

"It didn't come from us - we have never mentioned his name", Hodgson told the Croydon Advertiser.

He told reporters: "Who has linked him? I will tell you who - his agent".

Whether Wilshere would want to join a relegation battle with either Palace or West Ham with only six months left on his Arsenal contract remains to be seen, but he would dearly love to go to Russian Federation with England. We lost our last game and we need to bounce back.

"But good luck to Jack, I think he is an outstanding player and I have got nothing but respect for him, I like him very much, but why his name should be being talked about for Crystal Palace, I don't know".

"It is alright Arsene Wenger saying a fit Jack Wilshere gets in the England team, but you have to play for Arsenal".

"The way he plays, I think going overseas probably suits him and his game, otherwise he is going to go to a relegation-battling team, and that is not his game".
