Demi Lovato Posted Before And After Photos of Her Eating Disorder Journey

Demi Lovato relapsed in 2012 More

In Lovato's new YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated (which debuted on October 17) she stands in her truth about what happened behind the scenes, ever since she sought treatment for the disease years ago.

"The most important thing to Demi is losing people, losing people that she cares about and that love her", Lovato's sober coach Mike Bayer said.

"My heart started racing, and I thought to myself, 'Oh my God, I might be overdosing right now", the 25-year-old revealed in her documentary Simply Complicated, according to The Daily Mail.

The moving post shows a stark contrast between Demi's physical appearance over her five-year journey to getting sober, and coincided with the premiere of her new documentary, Simply Complicated, which premiered on YouTube on Tuesday.

I loved her when she was figuring out exactly where she was supposed to be in Camp Rock, I tried to emulate her fashion sense and hairstyles when she starred on Sonny with a Chance and I think I still have the special edition of PEOPLE magazine where they profiled her and Selena Gomez. I'm so happy for you. When she was a teenager in the limelight, Lovato was a cocaine, adderall and alcohol addict who, even after treatment and the diagnosis of bipolar disorder, continued to use for years.

By sharing the lived reality of recovery, be it from eating disorders or any other issue, Lovato is living proof that whilst it's not simple or easy, staying healthy and in recovery is possible.

Speaking of her relapse in 2012, she recalled: 'I wasn't working my program, I wasn't ready to get sober.

"I was using while I had a sober companion", Lovato admitted. Demi also gets suuuuuper candid about casual sex, and how she hates the stigma surrounding it. They said they only way they would was if she promised to change, and if they took her phone off her. Demi's using the dating app Raya, and says "I am on the dating app with both guys and girls; I'm open to human connection, so whether that's through a male or female, that doesn't matter to me".

Demi's one hella fearless woman. She talks at length about how she's felt discouraged from being open about her sexuality, but she's proud to be a sexual person and isn't going to be ashamed of it. He wasn't satisfied with her simply smashing it, and her team ordered her to drop it in a vase full of water while they watched.
