'Missing' Las Vegas security guard breaks silence on Ellen DeGeneres Show

Jesus Campos, the security guard who was shot in the leg by Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock and who has been hailed has a hero for helping to bring the attack to an end, emerged after news of his "disappearance" broke almost a week ago.

Jesus Campos described being shot by gunman Stephen Paddock as Campos walked down the 32nd floor hallway after calling for a maintenance worker on the night of October 1. "That's when I called in on my radio that shots were fired".

Campos resurfaced for a taping of Wednesday's program of the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", where he discussed the deadly shooting for the first time.

"It nearly slammed. I'm walking down this way and I believe that is what caught the shooter's attention", Jesus Campos said.

When gunfire erupted from Paddock's hotel room, Mr Campos said he believed the sounds had come from some kind of drill.

Campos was sent to inspect a fire door that had been propped shut by the gunman. I felt a burning sensation. I went to go lift my pant leg up and saw blood.

"He yelled at me, and within milliseconds, if he didn't say that, I would have got hit. I thought it was a jackhammer", Schuck said.

Las Vegas Police later claimed that the guard was shot six minutes before the shooting. "I imagine you relive that a lot", DeGeneres said.

Degeneres then gave Campos and Schuck tickets to see their favorite National Football League teams, and said that the show would be making a donation in their honor to the victims fund.

"The acts of humanity were major that night and I want to thank Jesus again from my family and all my friends and everybody for saving my life", Schuck said.

The 59-year-old comedian made clear that both Campos and Schuck turned down payouts for the sit-down.

Campos was set to appear on several television networks including CNN, ABC and NBC to recount his version of events but pulled out at the last minute, leaving his union representative to cancel the interviews. The talk show instead gave the pair tickets to see their favorite sports teams play.

His MGM Resorts International bosses said he wasn't missing at all.

MGM Resorts, the owner of Mandalay Bay, is a sponsor of the Ellen DeGeneres Show and features Ellen-themed slot machines at its casinos including Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, New York-New York, Excalibur, Luxor, Monte Carlo, and Bellagio among others, according to a link from her show's website. This was around the time the mass shooting began.

The Mandalay Bay hotel security guard shot during the Las Vegas massacre has broken his silence after running out on a media conference last week.

Campos drew intense attention when police hailed him as a hero just after the shooting, saying he unwittingly stopped the massacre by arriving in the hallway.
