Minnesotans don't need new ID for a year

Oklahoma granted REAL ID extension through October 2018

If the DMV can issue the first REAL ID before October 2018 and is deemed compliant, then South Carolinians will have until October 2020 to change their ID if they want to be "REAL ID" compliant and use it to board domestic flights or get onto federal military facilities.

State officials say they plan to have REAL ID compliant driver's licenses available to people that want them beginning in January 2019. OR is targeting July 2020 to begin offering compliant cards as a new option for customers.

The federal government is giving Pennsylvania a one-year reprieve to comply with new rules to tighten the security of the state's driver's licenses.

DMV said OR already meets the majority of Real ID requirements.

This means the federal government will continue to recognize Oklahoma driver's licenses and ID cards until that time.

One of the tasks of the Harrisburg-based workers will be to determine whether the department has digital copies of the documents drivers need to provide to get the REAL ID.

Starting in July 2018, the state's standard licenses - which aren't in line with the federal requirements - will be marked to indicate they are not REAL ID compliant and thus not acceptable for certain purposes by federal authorities.

The division is also working with students at MSU Billings to develop a public information campaign on Montana's efforts to meet the REAL ID requirements.

"As a reminder, Oklahoma passed legislation last session authorizing the state to move forward with Real ID implementation", Fallin spokesman Michael McNutt has said.
