3 troops killed in landmine blasts in Pakistan

It said the personnel were carrying out search operation to arrest those involved in the kidnapping of a Canadian-American couple when the explosive device went off.

The Canadian family was rescued by security forces in Kurram Agency near Pak-Afghan border a few days back.

Three paramilitary soldiers were killed and as many injured today in multiple landmine blasts at a check-post in northwestern Pakistan, officials said.

Soon after the explosion, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Later, one of the injured, Captain Hasnain, succumbed to his injuries. Other deceased included Sepoy Saeed Baz, Qadir and Jumma Gul, it added.

The funeral for the martyred officer was held in his native village Dholar Wala, which was attended by civilian and military officials and a large number of citizens.

At least five people including a militant commander have been reportedly killed in a U.S. drone attack near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Kurram Agency on Monday.

Kurram Agency borders three provinces of Afghanistan and witnesses several cross-border attacks.

The prime minister also prayed for swift recovery of the injured FC personnel.
