'Lost his marbles': Twitter reacts to Sangeet Som's Taj Mahal comment

Taj Mahal Symbol of eternity

"Many people were anxious that the Taj Mahal was removed from the list of historical places in the Uttar Pradesh tourism booklet".

Appreciating the act by Uttar Pradesh government of removing Taj Mahal from tourist destinations list, he guaranteed that history will change now.

In a response to the critics, Som asked what history were they talking about.

Shah Jahan, the Muslim Mughal emperor who built the Taj Mahal in memory of his favourite wife in 1643, did not imprison his father.

He said Shah Jahan wanted to wipe out Hindus.

Sangeet Som calls people like Shah Jahan were part of history as unfortunate and added that "government will change history".

He said the BJP leaders were raking up such issues to divert people's attention as their government at the Centre had failed in providing jobs, tackling terrorism, failed in dealing with China and was also facing flak from common man because of demonetization and GST.

Courting fresh controversy, BJP MLA Sangeet Som has termed Mughal emperors Babur, Akbar and Aurangzeb as "traitors" and said their names would be removed from pages of history.

The BJP is spreading hatred due to the narrow minded approach of its leaders, alleged the Opposition parties.

"No more Red Fort speeches on 15th August? My question to the party is - Will Prime Minister Modi stop hoisting the flag after this statement?" The views expressed by Sangeet Som are just his point of view and neither UP CM Yogi Adityanath nor his Government agree with them, said the UP government.

Firebrand Som lamented on the opposition for criticising the omission of infamous Taj Mahal.

"Foreign dignitaries visiting the country used to be gifted replicas of the Taj Mahal and other minarets which do not reflect Indian culture", the UP chief minister had said at a public meeting in Bihar. We are proud that the Taj is situated in UP.
