James Corden faces backlash for Harvey Weinstein 'jokes'

James Corden the sexual harassment and assault of women is no laughing matter

In his opening remarks, Corden said "This is a attractive room, it's a lovely night here in L.A. It's so handsome, Harvey Weinstein has already asked tonight up to his hotel to give him a massage", according to Variety.

While hosting the annual amfAR (American Foundation for Aids Research) gala on Saturday, Corden attempted to joke about the allegations against Weinstein. "Ask any of the women who watched him take a bath", he continued.

For example, in his opening joke, Corden said the weather was "so lovely, Harvey Weinstein has already asked tonight up to his hotel to give him a massage".

In reaction to the video, some pointed out Corden's previous links with Weinstein, a man he has refused to condemn since news of the scandal broke.

He wrote: "To be clear, sexual assault is no laughing matter".

"I don't know whether that groan was that you liked that joke or you don't like that joke".

The host of The Late Late Show apologized on Twitter, saying he meant to shame Weinstein and called Weinstein's behaviour "inexcusable".

One person who was not in attendance who took issue with these jokes was actress Rose McGowan, who has been on a tear since The New York Times published the first story on Weinstein's alleged history of abuse, calling people out for enabling Weinstein's behavior.

Argento also shared a clip of Corden's speech on Twitter and said: "Shame on this pig and everyone who grunted with him #amfARLosAngeles".

And actress Rose McGowan, who went public with her allegations against Weinstein on Twitter, used the platform to criticize Corden's remarks.

Corden's first big break in Hollywood came when he played Britain's Got Talent victor Paul Potts in The Weinstein Company's film One Chance. Instead of speaking out against Weinstein, this makes it look like Corden is making light of the whole thing.

She said in an another tweet: "Hearing the audience's vile roars & laughs show EXACTLY what kind of HOLLYWOOD you really are".
