'The New Mutants' Trailer Takes X-Men Into Horror Movie Territory

New Mutants trailer release announced

X-Men: The New Mutants will be released on April 13, 2018. What's scarier, seeing Arya Stark in danger, screaming for her life, or the familiar sounds of a Pink Floyd classic playing in the background?

Boone revealed in December that he originally pitched Fox a New Mutants trilogy.

In our spookiest month, Fox has just dropped the official trailer for The New Mutants. While "The Demon Bear Saga" was probably as dark as the series ever got - the eponymous monster is ultimately revealed to actually be Danielle's parents mutated into a beast, but only after it has almost killed her and permanently corrupted others who attempted to help her - New Mutants as a series never recovered from the impact of this storyline.

Five teen mutants are kept in a secret facility, where they are interrogated by Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alicia Braga).

2017 has been good to the X-Men. Legion was a head-trip, The Gifted somehow turned out to be good despite its drab trailers (I know, right?) and Logan was hands-down one of the best films this year.

"Did you know baby rattlesnakes are more risky than adult ones?" asks Reyes, hinting at the reason these kids have been placed in the mysterious facility.

The film is coming from the director behind The Fault in Our Stars, Josh Boone, and is planned to become a trilogy - if all goes well. And based on the first trailer, it looks unlike anything else in the Marvel canon.

We can't say we saw this one coming. Genre straddling is generally good, but it may backfire especially when moviegoers are confused as to what kind of movie they will see when they enter into the theaters.
