Mr. Sohail thanked Nanded people in general and Muslims in particular and said that people have boycotted communal parties and moved positively towards restoration of secularism. "The Congress defeated the BJP like the Aam Aadami Party had defeated the BJP in Delhi's assembly polls", stated the editorial in Saamana, Sena's mouthpiece. In the coming months, the BJP will replace the Sena as the single largest party in the BMC, the MP added.

The Congress had also built strong leads in at least another 25 seats in the NWCMC, which is now one of the last surviving bastions of the party in the state.

According to the Newspaper, Divergence is created in the country in the name of cow slaughter and love jihad. Sena, on the other hand, continues to lead with 84 seats. The Sena further has the support of four independents and the BJP has the support of two independents.

The Sena managed to open its account with one seat and an independent also won a seat in the civic body, as per the final results declared by the State Election Commission this morning.

The Congress won 73 seats in the 81-member corporation, vastly improving its tally from 41.

"What happened today (MNS corporators joining the Sena) was just "ghar wapsi" (homecoming)", Uddhav Thackeray said.

Surprisingly, the MNS leadership appeared unruffled and has not reacted officially to the development, giving rise to speculation of a hidden political understanding with Shiv Sena.

"Six Maharashtra Navnirman Sena corporators joined Shiv Sena today", Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said. Its 10 ministers, MLAs and even chief minister Devendra Fadnavis aggressively campaigned for the polls.

The party's fortunes, which were on the upswing after it came to power in the Nashik Municipal Corporation in 2012, declined in the next polls, with many of its corporators in the north Maharashtra city quitting ahead of the polls.

Shelar, while thanking the voters, said, "Tall claims were made in the Bhandup by-election but voters voted in favour of BJP".
