The Allahabad High Court's order acquitting Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, giving them the benefit of doubt in the Aarushi Talwar murder case, almost nine years after their teenage daughter and domestic help were killed, has further strengthened doubts that were raised initially over the investigation of the case and the 2013 judgment that had sentenced the couple to life imprisonment.

Following its failure to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Talwars were involved in the double murder, the CBI filed a closure report in December 2010.

Aarushi, was found murdered in her room in Noida on May 16, 2008, and the missing servant Hemraj, 45, was initially suspected of being the killer.

Aarushi's aunt, Dr Vandana Talwar while speaking to the media said that, "I am extremely happy and thankful to all those who supported us mentally, physically and financially".

It was not only the CBI but also the UP police that was pulled up by the high court for reportedly botching up the crime scene by allowing visitors to walk all over it.

The couple is likely to be released on Friday after the court sign and release the judgment. "Therefore, there is a good possibility that the judgment can be appealed against", said an official.

In November 2013, the couple was given a life sentence. Our intention all along was to see that all the versions of the case are out in the open.

The dentist couple's failure to explain the murders stacked up as crucial circumstantial evidence, leading to their conviction. "After having breakfast they were praying". She (Nupur Talwar) said they got justice today and had tears of joy. She claimed the whole case was based on "innuendos" and would "not have carried through".

Fourteen-year-old Aarushi was found dead inside her room in the Talwars' Noida residence with her throat slit in May 2008. Initial suspicions pointed towards foul play by their domestic help Hemraj, however, the case took a dramatic turn when his body was recovered two days later on the terrace of the same flat.
