Yogi Adityanath government proposes to build 100 metre tall Lord Ram statue in Ayodhya

A grand statue of Lord Ram on the banks of Saryu River in Ayodhya has been proposed by the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh. The project is part of the government's plan to provide public transport to 40,000 villages in the next four years.The 45-year-old priest-politician, who is always attired in saffron, said his government is committed to ensure safe and comfortable transport to the people.The Sankalp scheme will charge normal fare unlike the Lohiya rural bus service that gives a 25% discount.

According to a presentation made before Governor Ram Naik by UP's Principal Secretary, Tourism, Awanish Kumar Awasthi, apart from the Lord Rama statue, the state government will renovate ghats, including Guptar Ghat, where Lord Rama had taken "Samadhi", build police booths, install CCTV cameras, construct guest houses for tourists and auditorium at Digamgar Akhara.

The statue height has been proposed at 100 metres, while the measurements have not been finalized yet.

A Raj Bhavan Press communique on Tuesday said the statue would be built at Saryughat after National Green Tribunal's nod. The list of official saffron things in the state now includes certificates for sportspersons, booklets with details of awardees, certificates for beneficiaries of crop loan schemes, booklets to mark achievements of the government, information department's diary of contact details of officials, and identity cards at the Secretariat.

"On Diwali, a grand programme will be held in Ayodhya in which sadhu-saints will also participate".

An aarti is planned on the banks of the Saryu River on the eve of Diwali and thousands of earthen lamps or diyas will be lit in the town. "It is at a conceptual stage right now and similarly there are many other proposals for different tourist destinations across the state". Chief minister Adityanath has himself been unwavering in his support for building a Ram Temple at the disputed site while the plan is also known to have the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and RSS leadership. A part of the Ayodhya's redevelopment plan, the 100-metrehigh statue will be taller than the Statue of Liberty. The Union tourism ministry has sanctioned Rs133.70 crores for making Ayodhya a tourism hub.
