Umang Bedi Facebook India & South Asia MD Is Leaving the Company

Soon after Bedi quits, the social media giant via an official statement announced that Sandeep Bhushan is now the interim managing director of Facebook.

Facebook had appointed the former Adobe South Asia region MD Umang Bedi in June past year to build and maintain strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in the country. "He's built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best", the company said in a statement.

Bedi joined Facebook after serving as managing director for India operations for Adobe. Prior to Samsung, Bhushan was vice president, digital for HT Media. India is now the largest market for Facebook, exceeding its home ground, the US.

Sources said Bedi was likely to start a technology-based venture soon.

At a time when Facebook is moving rapidly towards expansion in India and Southeast Asia, how the exit of Managing Director Umang Bedi will affect the social media company's growth is something that will become apparent in the coming months. According to a report previous year Bedi's mission was to make Facebook relevant for businesses.

"India is the most strategic market for Facebook and the country will push the company's goal to connect the next one billion people", Bedi had said previous year.

Facebook India has also confirmed the development. Reddy has now moved to the company's headquarters in the US. He had led several initiatives, including many business-to-business partnerships at Facebook. His role at Facebook India was of building and maintaining strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in the country.
