Odisha minister demands probe into charges against Shahs son

The Congress party in Kerala on Monday demanded a comprehensive probe into allegations of phenomenal rise in the business owned by Jay Shah, son of BJP national president Amit Shah.

Urging the Prime Minister to say something, Gandhi tweeted, "Modi ji, Jai Shah, Jada Kha Gaya". Jay's company grew by 1600 times in this period. Former Union Minister Anand Sharma wondered if Cabinet Ministers like Piyush Goyal, who held a press briefing on the issue on Sunday, had become "spokespersons and business managers" for the BJP chief's son, who is a private individual.

Irani, in a statement, said the aggression by the Congress against Jay Shah was clearly off track. It is entirely false and has no facts.

CPI (M)'s Sitaram Yechury and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) both added their voices to the clamour.

Pointing out that Mr. Shah's company was in the red in the financial year 2013-14 prior to Narendra Modi coming to power but the turnover of the company increased to 80.5 crore rupees over the next two years, Chennithala called for a probe into the charges of financial irregularities against the company. That same year, it received an unsecured loan worth Rs 15.78 crore from non-banking financial company KIFS Financial Services, before winding up its business in October 2016. Citing filings with the Registrar of Companies, the report said that the turnover of Temple Enterprise Private Ltd, a company where Jay Shah was a director, allegedly rose 16,000 times that of previous year.

However, Jay said the report had made "false, derogatory and defamatory imputation against me by creating in the mind of right-thinking people an impression that my business owes its "success" to my father's political position".

"His every transaction is official and he did his work honestly".

"It is very easy to order a probe against opposition leaders but it is tough to order a probe against ones own party leaders", Gogoi told reporters.

The report also spoke of Jay's company, whose business is primarily stock trading, turning to generating wind power with a loan from a public sector enterprise, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).

In another broadside against the BJP, the Congress leader had said on Sunday, "We finally found the only beneficiary of Demonetisation". I had taken loan either from NBFC or Non-funded Credit Facilities from Cooperative Bank on purely commercial terms strictly in accordance with law.

In reply to a question, Surjewala said it was the desire of Congress office-bearers, workers and supporters that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi take over as party chief soon.
