Mukul Roy resigns as MP

Suspended Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy on Wednesday tendered his resignation as Rajya Sabha member on Wednesday.

Roy was speaking after submitting his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu. From 2012-2014 we were in fact the main opposition party against Congress both inside and outside Parliament", he recalled."Since, 2014, TMC is claiming that country can't be run without Congress. W. There was no scope of dissent in the party. And this kind of behaviour is common in every one-man political outfit. And also TMC claimed him of socially mixing with the BJP. "He was lifted from nowhere and made an MP and the Railway Minister of India by none other than Mamata Banerjee".

Roy expressed dissatisfaction over the TMC's closeness with the Congress.

"We have formed a political party to fight against the Congress rule". So, what is the point if TMC becomes the Congress's ally? "But his departure from the TMC is good news for all of us who are fighting against the misrule of the TMC", he said.

Mr Roy has been unhappy since 2015 when he was removed from the post of all-India general secretary of the TMC for his alleged role in the Saradha chit fund scam following which he had floated the Nationalist Trinamul Congress. "I was interrogated for over eight hours by the CBI and eight chargesheets were filed against me", he said.

TMC sources said it is this party - the NTC - which is likely to be revived to take on the TMC and CPI (M) in West Bengal and is likely to be backed by the BJP. However, when he was asked whether this also include the charges against Amit Shah's son Jay, Roy said the BJP chief 's son is not in politics. "Kanchraparar kanchra chele" (The garbage boy of Kanchrapara) has played very naïve politics with us and will fail miserably", he said. He also met finance minister Arun Jaitley last week. He has to provide proof against suchallegations.

Without naming Banerjee, he said dynastic politics in the party is one of the main reasons for him to leave it. "Dynastic politics is not good for the country".

Cracks began to surface in the relationship between Ms Banerjee and Mr Roy with the rise of the former's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, as the next generation leader of the Trinamool Congress.
