Hue Jackson Names Kevin Hogan Browns Starting QB For Week 6

Browns officially name Kevin Hogan starting quarterback

Through five games Kizer has completed 50.9 percent of his passes for 851 yards, with 3 touchdowns and an NFL-high 9 interceptions, for a quarterback rating of 49.5, which ranks 32nd in the league among qualifying players.

The Browns fell to 0-5 with their 17-14 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday.

If you're looking for reasons why Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson benched rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer, look to the team's miserable performance inside the red zone.

After Kizer was benched at halftime of Sunday's loss to the New York Jets, Hogan came in and threw two touchdown passes and almost rallied the Browns, who had two red-zone turnovers and missed two field goals in the first half.

"I've made the decision to start Kevin this week", Jackson said, via Cleveland's team website. This does not change the way we feel about DeShone going forward. "I watched him play past year for this football team".

"I'm excited. It is another opportunity to go out there and play some ball, which I love". He has worked extremely hard and still very much has a bright future. "He's leading their offense, throwing touchdowns every week, and so that's good for him". That is something that I have been doing since back in college. In three relief appearances, he's completed 26 of 38 passes for 377 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Jackson had gone to Kizer as his starter when the season began, saying he would stick with the rookie through all the growing pains.

Hogan was a fifth-round pick of the Chiefs a year ago out of Stanford. I was still kind of learning.
