Facebook Sees Widespread Outages Wednesday Morning

The independent website DownDetector.com reports that Facebook issues originally popped up a little after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Users trying to open Instagram are getting a blank page or an error message stating couldn't refresh feed.

Facebook and Instagram have yet to issue a statement.

Popular social media website Facebook is experiencing widespread outages Wednesday morning, October 11, 2017.

The social media platforms went dark for many across North American and Europe on Wednesday morning. We immediately researched and began reestablishing access inside around 60 minutes, and we have about settled the issue for everybody. So, after hours of global outage, Facebook is reported working fine now. "Instagram and Snapchat have extremely high user overlap, but Instagram is a better channel for branding, has better ad units, and stronger advertiser engagement", the report reads. According to a report by the Down Detector site, there have been some 12,000 complaints reported about the Facebook being down.

Facebook confirmed the outage, saying: "We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram".

GearBrain staff encountered problems too, with Instagram failing to load in the United Kingdom and Facebook showing nothing but a white screen when accessed in the US.
