Elon Musk's SpaceX launches its third refurbished rocket this year

Falcon 9 booster

Once the satellite is detached, the Falcon9 will bend back towards Earth and land on the "Of Course I Love You" spaceport vessel, which will be waiting in the Atlantic Ocean.

The launch was streamed live online, showing the SpaceX team at control room applauding and breaking into cheers after the Falcon 9 rocket's first stage landing. It successfully launched a satellite for Iridium Communications Inc. on Monday from Vandenberg Air Force Base on California's central coast and is targeting another launch for late October, a spokeswoman said. EchoStar-105/SES-11 separated from the rocket's upper stage roughly 36 minutes into the mission as planned.

The launch of the Falcon 9 rocket carrying an EchoStar 105/SES-11 communication satellite is scheduled to liftoff at 6:53 p.m.

The successful feat marks the third time SpaceX has used a "flight proven" Falcon 9 rocket booster and the third time it returned safely to Earth. Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES has been one of SpaceX's most faithful customers, having previously employed a used booster. The other two pre-flown boosters will launch with the first flight of SpaceX's Falcon Heavy later this year. SpaceX successfully launched a recycled rocket component for the first time in March in a bid to make the rocket travels more affordable and cut down the cost of highly expensive rocket components. Up until this point, each endeavor to arrive a Falcon 9 this year has been a success.

The rocket booster was previously launched into space in February in SpaceX's 10th resupply mission to the International Space Station for Nasa.

EchoStar 105/SES-11 is set to provide EchoStar with 24 Ku-band transponders of 36MHz, while it will offer a C-band payload of 24 transponders to SES. The first launch took place in January, while the second on June 25. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk posted a photo showing sattelite deploying on Instagram.

The webcast for Wednesday's launch attempt should begin about 15 minutes before the launch window opens.
