Tennessee promotes Jarrett Guarantano to starting QB, report says

Tennessee QB Jarrett Guarantano

University of Tennessee's Marcus Tatum (68) puts up.

Dormady was the starter for the first five weeks of the season, leading the Vols to a 3-2 record.

Tennessee will try and replicate that script when the teams meet again on Saturday.

According to Jesse Simonton of Volquest, multiple sources say redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano will make his first career start on Saturday. Jones stated that Guarantano has "earned the right and the opportunity" to start at quarterback. Jones began his Wednesday press conference by announcing that DB Evan Berry and TE Jakob Johnson will be out for the contest. "The scheme is the scheme".

"I think we all know the Georgia Tech deal and what happened there, Jarrett's not hiding from that".

Guarantano, the nation's No. 1 dual-threat quarterback prospect in the 2016 industry-generated 247Sports Composite, has completed 12 of 24 passes this season for 54 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions.

Head coach Butch Jones and the Tennessee Volunteers are still looking for their first SEC victory. He also is more mobile than Dormady, though Guarantano has rushed for only 6 net yards on 10 carries thus far. "Ever, '" offensive coordinator Larry Scott told Rivals on Monday.

Scott said Gurantano "is not hiding from that".

"With the help of your parents, us as coaches, your teammates, we're going to help you through this", Scott said.

Expectations for the Tennessee Vols are always high, but almost midway through the season many expectations have not been met and some Vol fans aren't happy. Quinten Dormady has been benched in favor of Jarrett Guarantano and Dormady is now considering transferring. The junior, who backed up Joshua Dobbs for two years, practiced Tuesday. I thought he had one of his better practices yesterday, and he came out and worked.

"Quinten's a competitor", Jones said Wednesday. "But that's what you would expect from a competitor".

The Vols host SC on Saturday. "You have a guy that, they're both competing and you give the job to another guy".
