The smaller Tamagotchi toy will be released in limited quantities on Nov 5 this year, as part of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of Tamagotchi in the United States, Bandai America said in a statement.

Today Bandai America has celebrated the 20th anniversary of the original Tamagotchi.

The question we have is whether anybody actually needs/wants a Tamagotchi in an age where we can download anything, even virtual pets to our smartphones. There is still an LCD display with no back light and three physical buttons that allow you to interact with your pet. Feed them properly, and your pets would transform into adults. You can pick from six shells that each offer six different characters to care for. However, the new Tamagotchi line is now available for pre-order.

The only difference from the old one is that it's got a slightly smaller screen - 32 x 16 pixels to 16 x 16 pixels.

Beforehand, you were able to discipline your Tamagotchi if it misbehaved or play games with it for exercise. but not this one. It has the original sounds for the first Japanese Tamagotchi, and, other than its much smaller size, looks to be exactly the Tamagotchi you remember.

Pre-orders customers in the USA on Amazon have already sold out.

Bandai America released the toy in Japan already and announced on their website that they'll be available in America in November.

The release will take place on November 5, at which point buyers in the USA will be able to choose between six different shell designs, including orange, white, aqua blue, clear blue, sky blue, and a red/blue option.

Just wrong Someone didn't think it through. are these the most offensive kids' toys EVER?
